The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was designed to be more than just another flagship smartphone.

It combined the premium Galaxy S series experience with the productivity features traditionally associated with Samsung’s Note series — most importantly, the built-in S Pen.

Even in 2026, the S22 Ultra remains an interesting option in Kenya for buyers looking for a premium Samsung phone with a large display, flagship cameras, powerful performance and S Pen functionality without necessarily moving to Samsung’s newest Ultra generation.

Its specifications remain impressive:

• 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display
• 120Hz adaptive refresh rate
• 5,000mAh battery
• 108MP main camera

*Processor and GPU vary by market. Samsung notes that processor configurations can differ by market and carrier.

1. 6.8-Inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display

The display is one of the biggest reasons to consider the S22 Ultra.

Samsung equipped it with a 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

This gives you:

QHD+ resolution

Images and text look extremely sharp, particularly on a large 6.8-inch screen.

120Hz refresh rate

Scrolling through websites, social media and menus feels significantly smoother than on a traditional 60Hz display.

The refresh rate can dynamically adjust between 1Hz and 120Hz, helping balance smoothness and battery consumption.

Up to 1,750 nits peak brightness

The S22 Ultra can reach extremely high peak brightness levels, helping improve outdoor visibility.

Samsung also included Vision Booster, designed to improve screen visibility in different lighting conditions.

2. 108MP Main Camera

The headline camera is the 108MP wide-angle sensor.

It features:

• 108MP resolution
• f/1.8 aperture
• Optical Image Stabilization
• Phase Detection Autofocus
• 85° field of view
• Adaptive Pixel technology

Samsung designed the camera system to capture detailed images while improving performance in challenging lighting conditions.

For Kenyan users, this makes the S22 Ultra particularly useful for:

• Travel photography
• Business content
• Social media
• Product photography
• Portraits
• Events
• Landscape photography
• Night photography

3. 10MP 3x Optical Zoom

The S22 Ultra doesn’t rely solely on digital zoom.

It has a dedicated 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

Optical zoom is important because it allows you to move closer to your subject without relying entirely on software enlargement.

This is particularly useful for:

• Portraits
• Events
• Sports
• Street photography
• Wildlife
• Travel

Samsung’s specifications list the 3x telephoto camera with optical image stabilization.

4. 10MP 10x Optical Zoom

This is where the S22 Ultra becomes particularly interesting.

It includes another 10MP telephoto camera offering 10x optical zoom.

The combination of 3x optical + 10x optical zoom gives the phone much more flexibility than a typical smartphone camera system.

Samsung’s camera documentation confirms that the S22 Ultra can achieve up to 100x Space Zoom, combining optical zoom with computational processing.

However, it’s important to understand the difference:

10x optical zoom = genuine optical magnification.

100x Space Zoom = computational/digital-assisted magnification.

At extremely high zoom levels, image quality will naturally decrease.

5. 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera

The 12MP ultra-wide camera provides a 120° field of view.

This is useful when you need to fit more into a single photograph.

Great for:

• Buildings
• Landscapes
• Group photos
• Interior spaces
• Travel photography

The ultra-wide camera also supports autofocus on the S22 Ultra.

6. 40MP Selfie Camera

On the front is a 40MP selfie camera.

It features:

• 40MP resolution
• f/2.2 aperture
• PDAF
• 80° field of view

It is suitable for:

• Video calls
• Selfies
• Social media
• Content creation
• Online meetings

The front camera can also record video at up to 4K resolution at 60fps.

7. Video Recording: Up to 8K

The S22 Ultra isn’t only a photography phone.

It can record video at:

8K @ 24fps

and supports high-resolution 4K recording at up to 60fps.

It also offers features such as:

• Optical Image Stabilization
• Electronic stabilization
• HDR10+
• Slow motion
• Super Steady video
• Stereo audio recording

For creators who want a capable phone camera without carrying a dedicated camera everywhere, the S22 Ultra remains a serious option.

8. The Built-In S Pen

This is arguably the feature that separates the S22 Ultra from many other smartphones.

The S Pen is built directly into the phone.

You don’t need to purchase a separate stylus and carry it around.

The S Pen is useful for:

• Handwritten notes
• Drawing
• Editing photos
• Signing documents
• Taking screenshots
• Translating text
• Precise screen navigation
• Productivity

The S22 Ultra essentially combines the Galaxy S flagship experience with the productivity philosophy of the Note series.

9. 5,000mAh Battery

For a flagship with a large QHD+ display, Samsung gave the S22 Ultra a substantial:

5,000mAh battery

Samsung rates the battery based on typical usage conditions and notes that actual battery life depends on factors such as network conditions, features, calls and application usage.

Battery performance can therefore vary considerably between users.

For someone using:

• WhatsApp
• YouTube
• Instagram
• TikTok
• Chrome
• Calls
• Navigation
• Photography

actual endurance will depend heavily on screen brightness, mobile data, refresh rate and usage intensity.

10. 45W Fast Charging

The S22 Ultra supports up to 45W wired charging.

It also supports:

15W wireless charging

and:

Wireless PowerShare

Wireless PowerShare allows compatible accessories such as earbuds or smartwatches to be charged from the phone.

Samsung specifies up to 45W wired charging and up to 15W wireless charging.

Important: charger availability can depend on the package and market, so buyers should confirm what is included with the specific unit they are purchasing.

11. Flagship Performance

Depending on the market, the Galaxy S22 Ultra uses either:

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

or

Samsung Exynos 2200

Both are 4nm flagship processors.

The Snapdragon version uses the Adreno 730 GPU, while the Exynos version uses Samsung’s Xclipse 920 GPU. Samsung notes that processor availability can vary by market and carrier.

This gives the S22 Ultra enough performance for:

• Social media
• Office applications
• Photography
• Video editing
• Gaming
• Multitasking
• Streaming
• Productivity
• Heavy everyday use

12. RAM and Storage Options

The S22 Ultra was offered in several configurations.

8GB RAM

Available with the 128GB configuration.

12GB RAM

Available with higher storage configurations, including 256GB, 512GB and 1TB depending on market.

Samsung officially lists configurations including 8GB + 128GB, 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB and 12GB + 1TB, although availability varies by market.

Which one should you buy?

For most users:

8GB + 128GB → Basic to moderate use

12GB + 256GB → ⭐ Best balance

12GB + 512GB → Heavy users and creators

12GB + 1TB → Maximum storage

If you take lots of 4K/8K videos, the 512GB or 1TB version makes much more sense.

13. Premium Build Quality

The S22 Ultra has a large, premium design measuring approximately:

163.3 × 77.9 × 8.9mm

and weighing approximately:

228 grams

Samsung’s specifications list the device at 228g.

It is not a lightweight phone.

But that extra size accommodates:

• Large display
• Large battery
• S Pen
• Advanced camera system
• Premium construction

14. IP68 Water and Dust Resistance

The S22 Ultra has IP68-rated water and dust resistance.

This provides additional protection against dust and water exposure under specified laboratory conditions.

However:

Water resistance is not the same as waterproofing.

It is still advisable to avoid deliberately exposing the phone to water.

15. Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung equipped the S22 Ultra with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the display.

This allows you to unlock the phone without a physical fingerprint button.

It works alongside other security features such as:

• Face recognition
• Samsung Knox security
• Secure Folder
• PIN/password protection

16. Stereo Speakers

The S22 Ultra features stereo audio, providing a much more immersive experience when:

• Watching YouTube
• Watching Netflix
• Playing games
• Listening to music
• Making speakerphone calls

The large display combined with stereo speakers makes it particularly good for multimedia consumption.

17. 5G Connectivity

The S22 Ultra supports 5G connectivity, alongside 4G LTE and other standard mobile connectivity technologies.

For Kenyan users, actual 5G availability depends on:

• Network operator
• Coverage
• SIM
• Location
• Network plan
• Supported bands on the specific regional model

This is particularly important when buying imported units.

Things to Consider Before Buying an S22 Ultra in Kenya

Because the S22 Ultra is an older flagship by 2026, buyers should pay particular attention to the condition of the individual device.

Especially if you’re buying a used, refurbished or imported unit.

Check the battery health

A 5,000mAh battery when new does not mean every used S22 Ultra still has the same battery capacity.

Check the S Pen

Make sure the S Pen is included and functions correctly.

Check the cameras

Test:

• Main camera
• Ultra-wide
• 3x zoom
• 10x zoom
• Front camera
• Video recording

Check the display

Look for:

• Burn-in
• Dead pixels
• Green lines
• Touch problems
• Scratches

Check the charging port

Make sure USB-C charging works properly.

Check the IMEI

Always confirm that the device is legitimate and suitable for use on Kenyan networks.

Check the warranty

A warranty can provide significant peace of mind when buying a premium smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs Typical Mid-Range Phones

One of the biggest mistakes when shopping for smartphones is comparing phones based purely on their release year.

The S22 Ultra was launched as a flagship.

That means its advantages aren’t limited to processor speed.

You also get:

Better cameras

Better zoom

Better display

S Pen functionality

Premium construction

Wireless charging

Flagship processing

Advanced stabilization

High-end connectivity

This is why an older Ultra model can still be attractive against some newer mid-range phones.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Is It Still Worth Buying in 2026?

Yes — but condition and price matter.

The S22 Ultra still has a specification sheet that looks impressive:

108MP camera

10x optical zoom

6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED

120Hz

5,000mAh

S Pen

12GB RAM

Up to 1TB storage

5G

45W charging

The biggest consideration in 2026 isn’t whether the S22 Ultra was a good phone.

It absolutely was.

The bigger question is:

What condition is the particular unit in, and how much are you paying for it?

A clean S22 Ultra with healthy battery performance, a good display, working S Pen and a reliable warranty can still be a very compelling premium smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Price in Kenya

The price of a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in Kenya can vary significantly depending on:

• RAM
• Storage
• Regional version
• New/refurbished/used condition
• Battery health
• Physical condition
• Warranty
• Accessories
• Seller

For this reason, buyers should compare the complete package, rather than choosing a phone simply because it has the lowest advertised price.

Final Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra remains one of Samsung’s most feature-packed traditional flagship smartphones.

Its strongest features are still impressive:

 6.8-inch QHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display

 108MP flagship camera

3x + 10x optical zoom

 5,000mAh battery

 Built-in S Pen

 45W wired charging

 Flagship 4nm processor

 Up to 1TB storage

 5G

 IP68 protection

For a Kenyan buyer looking for a premium Samsung phone with serious camera capabilities, a massive display and S Pen productivity, the S22 Ultra remains worth considering in 2026 especially when you find a well-maintained unit at the right price.

The S22 Ultra may no longer be Samsung’s newest Ultra, but its combination of camera hardware, display quality, S Pen functionality and flagship performance means it has aged remarkably well.
